The product has many glaze cracks. These cracks are not noticeable from a distance of 2 meters. The item you have ordered is completely handcrafted Iznik tile. As you may know, tiles are coated with glaze. The glaze on the tiles may crack, and this is natural for Iznik tiles. Even in the historical Selimiye Mosque, the Iznik tiles have glaze cracks. Glaze cracking is definitely not a defect.
SHAHDAR (Cracks in the Ceramic)
It is an Ottoman word meaning "branched" or "with branches." In ceramic works, cracks that occur on the glaze (glass fusion) caused by humidity and moisture are called "SHAHDAR." Every ceramic tile may eventually develop SHAHDAR. Some may develop it within a few days, while others may take centuries. This is similar to the wrinkles we humans develop as we age. Ottoman artists, who attributed different meanings to every motif and color they worked on in ceramics, used the expression “As man’s skin wrinkles with age, so does the ceramic develop SHAHDAR."
